Textile Art

These are my two contributions to the ATASDA "Future ... Past" exhibition in the Palm House of the Sydney Botanic Gardens, from August 14th to 26th. My inspiration was a little sandwich tray doiley with daisies. I continued the labour of love that must have gone into all that type of stitching - creating items to cover the everyday, the ordinary. Now those old embroidered textiles are stored in the back of the bottom drawer, and often only come to light when we are tidying our parents homes when they need to move out.
My pieces here are wall hangings.

Development of a "piece"

leaf print on paper
bit of dark rust effect at the top

some inktense pencil work
woven with silk organza from the same dye pot as the paper
... to be continued ...

After I doodle and colour, I simply stitch (with Karen Ruane)

seeds and weaving

such cute seeds
my haphazard collection of beach and bush findings grows
and becomes woven together as a story
